I love the classics. Classic cars (my favorite is an MG), classic art, classic makeup and classic looks. Audrey Hepburn had a classic look. So did Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Sophia Loren, Katherine Hepburn (those wide leg pants!) all beautiful and classic. When thinking about skinny black pants, Audrey Hepburn (often seen in a classic skinny black pant) came to mind. Like Robert Redford in jeans, Audrey had her skinny black pants. Like all my designs, these skinny black pants are a result of my challenge when looking for this item for my own wardrobe. I wanted that same classic pant we’ve all seen Audrey Hepburn in. When I couldn’t find them, I decided to add my own twist to this classic.
I don’t know about you, but I could wear black pants every day. They need to be well made so they can be worn more than once without needing to be ironed or dry cleaned. (You do know men don’t dry clean their pants every time they wear them?) More importantly, they had to be easy to wear. I wanted the ability to wear heels, boots or flats. Dress them up or even dress them down, incorporate them into my weekend wear (I could go on and on).
I have worn a similar pant over the years. Of course, the inseam changes for the trends, but still classic and always a staple in my closet. When it came time to designing my own, I worked hard to ensure my favorite details were included. A wider waistband to tuck in a blouse, a seam down the front (oh-so slimming) and a skinny fit throughout the leg, with a 30” inseam. Perfect for that killer stiletto or ballet flat.
It might interest you to know, I designed two totally different pairs of black pants. This silhouette was produced first, as I got more requests from customers when I showed both sketches to women. Overall the reaction was, “Oh, I really need these pants!”
This classic is made of Ponte, easy for travel and long meetings and moves with you. The skinny leg is perfect for any body type and pairs well with a blazer or sweater. Of course, this garment has a bit more detail; faux zippers, seams down the front and wider waistband. As always, it is constructed with the best fabric and made in the US.
The skinny pant, perfect for work or a night out! A 30” inseam that translates for most heights (I am 5’7” and they are a bit longer than my ankle). The details are subtle, yet make a statement and this design is versatile. Wear them on casual Friday or to your next client meeting. My bet, you will reach for them more than once a week.
One last thought, I would love to see how you would style your own black skinny pants. Send me your photos, tag me (@roseandthread_) on social media and we will be sure to share your inspiration.
