In my minds eye I saw Kate Moss, who is often seen wearing black, donning a black blazer and making that ever classic look, a bit edgy. She takes this classic silhouette and makes it her own. That is the inspiration behind my black blazer design.
I often get asked, “Why are you designing a black blazer?” It’s simple, I couldn’t find one that was classic and versatile. I wanted a blazer I could wear to the office or a client meeting and a night out with the girls. I wanted to put my own twist on the look. Nothing that was too trendy, as that didn’t translate for the job I had (high-tech sales executive) or my desire for something timeless. I also wanted premium quality. Having been taught from an early age (thank you Mom) that a superior quality item will last and stand the test of time, I keep her teachings with me. “…It might cost a bit more, but you will have it for years to come. Essentially, it will cost you less over time”. That logic stuck and I have had it ingrained within me ever since.
Over the years, finding this classic black blazer garment has been a challenge. Of course, there are many brands and designers who produce a black blazer. For me, it just never lived up to my expectations. There was always something that didn’t meet my list of “must-have” details. When I did find one that was perfect, the price tag didn’t seem to warrant. Why did luxury have to come with such a high price tag? I did want to invest in quality garments, but did I need to use half a month’s salary to get those items? It just didn’t add up (no pun intended).
Being in the fashion industry all these years was a great foundation for this new journey I started. Although I have never designed before, my experience as a buyer and vendor representative (I sold Lee Jeans many years ago) gave me some solid experience to work from. I started to draw and my vision for the essential black blazer started to appear. It was an emotional day when I saw the blazer sample on my fit model. To see something that you have been imagining and dreaming about come to life is very powerful.
I hope you love this blazer as much as I do. You will find that I used the softest, most luxurious fabrics, yet not fussy (this one travels well). The details are subtle but make a statement and it is very versatile. My women's blazer will take you from the boardroom to that night out with ease. The best part, you have an item that will stand the test of time and the cost is half of what you would find with overpriced labels.
One last thought, I would love to see how you would style this classic blazer. Send me your photos, tag me @roseandthread_ on social media and we will be sure to share your inspiration.
